The Great baby bristlenose line up....

Well its been a while since My last updat so as the baby bn did something strange the other night I thought I would share a pic with you. Also I thought I would introduce a new addition to the tank that I added a few weeks ago. I bought 2 tiger bn and after a few days of playing hide and seek i lost them and thought they had died but as you can see one of them poped out to say hi so I decided to include a pic of him also. As you can see ALL of the babies decided to line up across the front of the tank and the one side.....

Its Update time again!!!

Its update time again!!!!!!!!
Yep I have two new pics of the "kids" they have been in the cave like scaredy fish for a while now but they are slowly getting up the courage to poke their fishy noses out and see wots around. They havent actualy left the cave yet but they are getting close to it. I had tried tempting them out by putting some mango at the entrence to the cave but the dad was being mean and kept moveing it away so he could eat it himself!!! I hope you enjoy these pics

Thursday, 15 October 2009

Hi Guys I have a new update for you. The dad was off eating so I decided to check on the babies and do a quick tail count and took a pic. There are roughly between 39 and 42 babies!!!!!!! they tend to wriggle alot so it makes it harder to count but here is a pic for u to see them

yayyy hatchling turned into a fry!!!

well I got up this morning and did my normal check of the tanks makeing sure all the fish were ok and i saw a very small blob with a wriggleing tail on one of the plant leaves eating its very first meal!!!! I was able to take a pic but its kinda blury. the second blob you can see is a small snail. I looked at the other hatchlings and they were still in the cave wriggling their tails like mad so they should be out and about anytime soon now
I will keep you posted

They r wiggleing!!!!

Well I saw that the dad was over the other side of the tank today so I thought I would take a chance and peek at the hatchlings. While I was looking I managed to take a pic and a quick vid I hope you enjoy them

Lol what a difference a few hours can make. When I posted thoes pics earlyer i noticed that I could see eyes forming in the eggs so thought that they might start hatching in the next few days. So a few mins ago i started to feed them and I noticed the dad was acting a bit agressive to the other fish so i finished feeding them and went to feed the fish in the other tank when I came back he wasnt at the entrence to the cave anymore and I could see some things wriggleing so I moved closer and I could see these orange blobs with tails wriggleing about on the roof of the cave!!!! looking at the pic I took I think there is at least 10 that have hatched!!!!!
Well I know I said I was going to upload some pics and vids from the fish store I visited but im still going through them searching for the best ones ( I took alot lol ) So I thought I would do a update on the eggs instead.
If you scroll down further into the blog you will see the problems I had with the first batch of eggs. Ofcourse my hopes for this batch also went out the window with my hops of the dad fish looking after them as he seemed to have no interest in this new batch of eggs at all. The eggs have been moved all around the tank as if they were going on some sort of mystery tour, and its been keeping me very worried for their safety but Ive left them alon as I knew that the breeding pen might not be the right thing for them. Soooo yesterday the deadbeat dad finaly decided to do his job and look after the eggs. Ofcourse being as its him he isnt doing it exactly the way he should and Ive been told it could be becouse he dont feel any threats in the tank and thats why he is so casual with the eggs but im not sure. Anyway he has decided to stay close to the eggs, sometimes he stands over them, sometimes he is just really close. He has also changed locations for his "cave" from the log to the peice of bogwood I have in there. He is still moveing the eggs around but at least they r now staying close to that cave ( sometimes they are inside sometimes outside ) Anyway here are some pics.

Eggs part 2!!!

Ok we have our second batch of bristlenose eggs!!!!
And just like last time nothing is straight forward about this batch... The eggs are suposed to be in the cave the dad made UNDER the log but for some reason these eggs are on the outside of the cave, but at least he is looking after them as you can see in the one pic. So fins crossed these eggs will hatch properly!!
I also visited the fish store today and I got some great pics of some of their fish and one or two small vids which I will be uploading when I get the time

Well Im very very happy to say that I have a baby Bristlenose!!!!!!! And here are some pics of the little mite. Well I have anouther new update for you. Unfortunatly the bristlenose hatchling didnt make it. so sad over that as I really thought it was going to make it, but when I checked it this morning it had died.

Hopefully the youtube links will work and show you just how determined the albino bristlenose is where food is concerned the leaf its eating from is moveing around in a air bubblr curtain and yet it still keeps eating away....
After watching each link remember to press the "back" arrow on your browser to get back to this page in order to watch the others

lol I just had to share this with you. My one albino bristlenose loves to dig in the sand under the cucumber and stay there upsidedown.... it will spend hours doing this and when checking the tank just now I just had to share the sight I saw. I hope you enjoy watching it

Well anouther update. Yesterday I got told of a pet shop that was closeing and that it was its last day so I rushed over to see what I could get that was at a reduced price. Unfortunatly most stuff that was of any use to me had been sold, but I was able to get some new fish first pic is of a strange looking fish called a hillstream loach. When I bought it the guy called it a china sucker but he was useing the wrong name for it. There were 3 of them and he was keeping them in a very small plastic container as he had sold most of his fish tanks so I just had to buy them to make sure they had a good home. There was also 3 peppered cory catfish in anouther small container so I bought them also and to round things off I bought 12 neon tetra schooling fish.
I thought at first the hillstream fish was some kind of strange small plec like a bristlenose but with strange skirt like fins, and even tho they do eat alge and stick to things useing their mouths like a plec ( points to last pic in set ) they are actualy loaches.

I thought I would show a few fore pics. As you can see the fish absolutly love the mellon. Ive also updated my tank with a new plant to the right which I think ballences out the tank much better, you can also see the breeding net where the hatchling is currently liveing. And I have a updated pic of the hatchling Bristlenose fish

Saturday, 12 September 2009

Ok as promised i have a pic of the bristlenose hatchling. For some reason tho I only have one and not two so where the second one is I have no idea as the breeding nets top is way out of the water so it couldnt float out or get eaten by anouther fish
But here is the pic of the first bristlenose hatchling

Friday, 11 September 2009

Well I have a few new things to share. First of all all the bristlenose eggs bar 2 died. The two that are left I THINK have hatched but Im not really sure. I will be adding a pic of them tomorrow.
In the mean time I tried a new food on my fish.... Mellon!! and they love the stuff!!!
The first post is from My smaller tank and as you can see the shrimp love the mellon also

Tuesday, 8 September 2009

I just thought I would share a vid of my guppies

I would also like to give a update on the Bristlenose eggs. well unfortunatly over half the eggs have turned white which means there is no way they will hatch but.... there are still some orange ones and they have a black line going through them which im told could be the baby fish forming!!!
So I will keep you informed as they should hatch withing the next day or so

We have Eggs!!!!!!

We have eggs!!!!!!!

Well the title says it all really. I found the eggs by acident. I hadnt seen the male BN for 2 days so decided to search for him in case he was ill or hurt. So I moved everything around trying to find him and so far ive still not been able to find him but what i did find was a cluster of eggs!!! so obviously he was looking after the eggs and thats why he wasnt around. I have taken a pic of the eggs for you to see. Ive also taken a few pics of some of the male guppies.

Tuesday, 1 September 2009

ok I added My two main Bristlenose to the new tank today and boy was it hard trying to catch them. In the end I had to fool them by putting their cucumber food inside the fish net in order to trick them. Anyway after a bit of exploring they finaly found the peice of bogwood i put in there for them to nibble on. The wood took a bit to find becouse it also has a slight hollow underneath forming a cave and anouther place for them to hide in.
The male soon found this hollow and has been busy digging diff ways to enter it and it seems the female has also found this prime peice of realestate and wants to share with him. Here is a short vid of them "playing" in and out of the bogwood cave

more of My tank

Ok update time. Ive finaly got the sand for the bottom of my tank as you can see in the first pic.
And.... Ive finaly got my volcano!!! lol. For thoes of you that know me you will know that I like My "gadgets" and when I saw the volcano with lights and bubbles I just knew I had to get one

With the tank lights out the red light really shows. Im going to take a pic later tonight with all the lights out to see the difference the volcano light makes in the tank. Below you can see a close up pic of the volcano with the tank lights on. And even with the lights on you get to see some red reflected in the bubbles but unfortunatly the camera didnt realy show that

Sunday, 23 August 2009

And now I thought I would share a few pics of my fish. You may notice that I have more pics of my Bristelnose than of any other of my fish. This is becouse they are such great fish, they have great personalities and while they can be shy and easily frightened they can also be very friendly and will come up to the front of the tank to see what you are doing.

Well as I found that its damn hard to photo guppies becouse they are very fast swimmers i took a small vid of them
